Title 1 and SES approval
The purpose of Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging State academic achievement standards and state academic assessments. This purpose can be accomplished by providing children an enriched and accelerated educational program, including the use of school wide programs or additional services that increase the amount and quality of instructional time.

In order to stay competitive in school districts around the country, Global Tutors is actively seeking approval in all 50 states as SES (Supplemental Education Services) providers under Title 1. We have been successful in winning approval in the states of New Jersey, North Carolina, and Texas, with approval pending in several more states, including Florida and Virginia, and we are continuing to apply to become SES providers in all 50 states.

Global Tutors is currently providing tutoring at several schools: among them Treasure Village Montessori in Florida, Old Redford Academy in Michigan, and George Crockett Academy, also in Michigan. We have gone in and set up computer labs in these schools and the tutoring we’ve provided has been very effective as a supplemental service to these students. These schools have shown a marked improvement in the performance of the students, and we have received very high accolades from all schools involved. In order to stay on top of our game and make sure we are offering our clients the absolute highest quality tutoring, Global Tutors is very active in regularly attending educational conventions all over the country.  We feel this is necessary to keep up with others in our field and also a way to make new contacts.  Here are some of the conventions we have attended in 2008.

In June, 2008, the 8th Annual National Charter Schools Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana. This conference was attended by school administrators, teachers and board members from charter schools all around the country.

In July of 2008, The American Telugu Association Convention.  This event was attended by Indian professionals and leaders in the Indian community.  There were many leaders attending in the field of education as well as community and business leaders from other professions.

In November, 2008, was the 11nth Annual Michigan Charter Schools Conference, which was attended by approximately 3000 people, primarily by teachers and administrators from charter schools all over the state of Michigan. There were conference workshops and keynote speakers.  One keynote speaker at this conference was Dr. Joe Martin, the Education Motivator, author of “Gifts and Handkerchiefs: A Lesson in Servant Leadership.”
November, 2008: The Florida Charter Schools Conference took place, which was attended by approximately 500 people, many of whom were educators from charter schools from all over the state of Florida.  At the Florida Conference, there were breakout sessions, an exhibit hall, and round table discussions; all addressing pertinent information for today’s educators.
Turning now to 2009, Global Tutors has had a very busy year so far, with several conferences planned.

In May, 2009, Global Tutors partnered with Treasure Village Montessori Charter School in the Florida Keys, Florida, serving grades K-8. In addition to setting up tutoring for grades 3-8, we will also be offering parent workshops and after school programs for the students.

Upcoming Conferences and Events for 2009
Global Tutors will be attending the Texas Charter School Conference, in San Antonio, Texas, in April 2009. This is one of the largest charter school markets in the nation, with Texas having over 400 charter schools.  The conference is the only statewide gathering of the entire Texas charter school community. They are expecting over 1200 charter school advocates including teachers, administrators, board members and policy makers. Also at this conference will be 90 breakout sessions, over 30 training sessions and an exhibit floor with the latest in products and services for charter schools.

At the end of April, 2009, Global Tutors is partnering with the Girl Scouts of America in Edison, New Jersey, for an Earth Day Celebration event, where 800-1000 people are expected to attend.  This event is co-sponsored by the Edison Environmental Commission.

In late June, 2009, Global Tutors attended the 9th Annual National Charter Schools Conference in Washington, D.C., where there were over 3,000 attendees, including heads of schools, political figures, and community leaders in the education field. Some of the keynote speakers present were Michelle Rhee, Chancellor of DC Public Schools; Allan Golston, President, U.S. Programs, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; Joel Klein, Chancellor NYC, Dept. of Education; Howard Fuller, Founder/Director, Institute for the Transformation of Learning at Marquette University. There were exhibits and a learning center. The National Charter Schools Conference is the only national gathering of the entire charter school community.

Growing from a single school 17 years ago, charter schools now serve more than 1.4 million students in 4,600 schools in 40 states and the District of Columbia. This continuing dynamic growth is a testament to the dedication and skill of thousands of school teachers, school leaders and others. This national conference is a time for educators and school leaders to share what they know and learn from one another. One of the sponsors of this event is the National Charter School Alliance for Public Charter Schools. This alliance develops sound, coherent policies that support high-quality public education options for families who need them the most. To increase public support and political understanding of charter schools, the Alliance proactively delivers the message of accountability and results through print, broadcast, and online media; Issue briefs and other publications; and conferences such as last summer’s Chartering 2.0 leadership summit.

Global Tutors attended this Conference where representatives of GT spoke to over 100 different leaders, CEO’s and founders of charter schools from over 25 different states. Contacts were made with charter school leaders in approximately 27 states; including Nevada, New Mexico, Wisconsin, Georgia and others. Several representatives of schools were interested in signing up with GT for the fall terms, and more were interested in our Summer Advantage Program. Our GT reps set up demos, and made the most of this opportunity to reach out and expand Global Tutors’ influence on the education community.

Global Tutors provided tutoring services for our students during school, after school and over the summer.  The addition of Global tutors to our program allowed students to receive necessary assistance in both Reading and Math.  Furthermore, students were able to practice their technology skills.  This option came with great success after being disappointed with Sylvan’s tutoring services.  Students enjoyed talking with their tutor, receiving assistance and finally learning objectives that were once struggling points.  As a district, we enjoyed having the ability to provide the extra assistance and our parents were very pleased with the additional learning that took place.

Melissa Ross

I’d like to thank Global Tutors for helping my son Wade in exceeding my and his expectations in the subject of Math grade (8). Your company has really given me the confidence that additional assistance with my child’s deficiencies were not achievable.

I saw that after we joined Global Tutors, improvements were made after the second session and continued for the entire program. Not only were your tutors professional and excellent at their job, they also were very sensitive to the needs of my child. Which I think makes a huge difference.

Should I run across anyone that needs tutoring I will not hesitate to mention Global Tutors to them. Thank you very much for your help.
